Copy the sender number
Use the originating number from the SMS thread — not a number printed inside the message body.
Texts & SMS senders
An SMS number checker for suspicious delivery texts, bank alerts, and “verify your account” messages. CatchNumber helps you inspect the sender before you tap a link or reply.
Validade, operadora, tipo de linha e região na primeira passagem.
Como funciona
Do not trust the message tone alone. Look at the number, then decide whether the link or reply is safe.
01
Use the originating number from the SMS thread — not a number printed inside the message body.
02
Review validity, carrier, and line type when available before tapping any link.
03
Contact the real company through an official app or website you open yourself.
O que pode verificar
Built for package scams, fake bank alerts, and account-reset messages.
Guia
A text claims a parcel is held, an account is locked, or a payment failed, and it carries a link. The whole attack depends on you acting in the ten seconds before you think. Checking the sending number takes about as long and changes what you are looking at.
A legitimate organisation that sends you transactional messages almost always does it from one of two things: a short code (a five- or six-digit number leased for bulk messaging) or an alphanumeric sender ID, where the message appears from a name rather than a number. Neither can usually receive a reply, which is why these messages so often say "do not reply".
A message claiming to be from a bank or a courier that arrives from an ordinary mobile number is already out of pattern. That is not proof of fraud — small businesses text from real handsets all the time — but a national bank does not.
Run the sending number and two fields matter. A VoIP line is cheap to acquire in bulk and disposable, which is why mass smishing campaigns favour it; a long-held mobile on a major carrier is a weaker fit for a throwaway operation. Region matters in the same way: a "local delivery depot" texting from a number issued in another country is a contradiction the message itself will not mention.
Neither field convicts anyone. Both give you something concrete to weigh against a message engineered to feel urgent.
Checking the number is useful, but the link is where the harm is. Three habits defeat almost all of it:
Do not reply, not even to object — a reply confirms the number is live and reaches a person. Report it instead: most countries have a spam-forwarding short code, and reporting feeds the filters that stop the next wave. In the United States the FCC maintains the official channel for unwanted calls and texts.
Then block the number and move on. Identifying the sender is rarely possible and almost never necessary: the useful outcome is that the message stops working on you.
No — and you should not open suspicious links. The lookup is about the sender number, not the URL.
Local formatting can still be spoofed or recycled. Behavior and urgency still matter.
Sometimes that confirms a live number. Prefer blocking and reporting through your device or carrier tools.
To a message from a legitimate marketing sender, yes — they are obliged to honour it. To a suspected scam, no. Any reply confirms a live number attached to a real person, which makes you a better target. Report and block instead.
Because real short codes and alphanumeric sender IDs require registration with carriers, which creates a paper trail. Disposable mobile and VoIP numbers do not. That is exactly why a bank message arriving from a normal mobile number is out of pattern.
Alphanumeric sender IDs can be forged in many countries, so a message can appear in the same conversation thread as genuine messages from a brand. This is why the sending number is a useful check but the link and the request matter more.
